We recently shared the results of our 2025 Infection Reduction Survey, where we found that our attendees are:
- Mixed in their support for masks, with some strongly for them and others strongly against. While we think attendance would go up moderately if we reduced our fraction of masked dances, there are also many community members who would stop being able to attend any of our dances, and we think there's a lot of value in hosting some mask-required dances in addition to mask-optional dances. We won't be changing our masking policy this time, and will stick with requiring masks at 3rd Sunday dances and half of our new 4th Sunday afternoon dances.
- Strongly in favor of using far UVC to clean the air at dances. We've ordered four 222nm Aerolamps and will start using these at all our dances with the November 2nd dance:
- Overall in favor of using glycol vapors, but with a significant number of people who are uncomfortable with the idea. This varied strongly by masking preference: 30% of dancers who prefer mask requirements prefer glycol vapors, vs 9% of dancers who prefer no requirement and 8% who don't have a preference. Because of this difference in support, and with a goal of having some dances that people who are opposed to glycol vapors can attend, we've decided to start using glycol vapors at our masked dances, starting November 16th.
We're excited to be making BIDA safer, not just from COVID but from airborne infections in general. If you have any questions, please comment here or write to current-bida-board@googlegroups.com.
